The speedboat glided along the Grand Canal, but the night view contrasted starkly with the splendid and lively images of daytime photos. Closed gates, mottled walls, and rusty moorings silently spoke of the impermanence of things and the melancholy passage of time. The exteriors of a few buildings along the banks were emblazoned with colored lights, likely historic aristocratic palaces, or celebrity residences. Through the pitch-black windows, ceiling chandeliers and exquisite murals were vaguely visible. A few restaurants shimmered dimly, graceful silhouettes casting reflections in the wine glasses as patrons toasted, barely upholding the “Water City’s” flashy reputation for opulence.
“The spring river levels up to the sea, under the glaring moon high-rising the tides. Brimming waves have flowed for thousands of miles, where’s the spring river without the moon being seen? Who was the first by the river to see the moon? When did the river moon first shine upon men? The slanting moon sinks into thick sea mist, infinite distance to bring north hills and south streams to meet.” This Venetian scene evoked verses from the ancient Tang poem Spring River in a Floral Moon Night, making Uki feel an unexpected connection to her home.

快艇顺着大运河行驶，可是夜航场景远不象图片上或白日里那般华丽热闹。紧闭的大门，斑驳的墙面，锈蚀的船桩，默默讲述世事无常与岁月苍凉。岸边几栋建筑外面有彩灯照射，想必都是历史悠久的贵族宫殿，名人旧居，透过漆黑的窗口，可以看见的天花板上豪华的玻璃吊灯和精美绝伦的大幅壁画。几家餐馆灯光烛影，觥筹交错，勉强支撑着“水都”的浮华声名。
“春江潮水连海平，海上明月共潮生。滟滟随波千万里，何处春江无月明？江畔何人初见月？江月何年初照人？斜月沉沉藏海雾，碣石潇湘无限路。”这威尼斯的景致，俨然就是一首《春江花月夜》，悠琪心中凭添几分亲近。
